Home | Current Program | Ad Hoc CommitteeAd Hoc Committee on Education and Training OpportunitiesAn Ad Hoc Committee on NCRP Education and Training Opportunities held a teleconference on September 17, 2008 and prepared a position paper that will be discussed by the Board of Directors at its December 11, 2008 meeting. The Committee recommended that NCRP identify training course subjects based on its reports; seek appropriate accreditation, potential collaborators, and sponsors; identify a course plan and candidate faculty members; prepare an advertising plan; and perform a cost-benefit analysis for maximizing educational goals and generating net revenue. The preparation of a draft business plan for an NCRP Education and Training Program continued during the third quarter of 2009 and was completed for discussion by the Board of Directors at its meeting on December 9, 2009. The plan will be completed in 2010. The revised business plan was discussed by the Board of Directors at its meeting on March 10, 2010, and decisions were made on the final steps to be taken in establishing the program plan. The status of the business plan was discussed by the Board of Directors at its August 2-3, 2010 meeting, and the decision was made to proceed with establishment of the education and training program following discussions of the NCRP directorate with collaborating organizations. Estimates of costs and potential revenue were obtained from two organizations with experience in conducting internet-based and classroom training courses. The information received from these organizations was discussed at the December meeting of the Board. It was decided to partner with one or both of these organizations and initiate the NCRP training program in 2011. At the March 9, 2011 meeting of the Board of Directors, it was decided that at least one example of an NCRP webinar training course should be prepared for review by the Board of Directors. It was decided by the Board that the initial examples should be based on NCRP Reports No. 165 and No. 168. Arrangements are being made for the initial webinar featuring Report No. 165 to be filmed in Oak Ridge during May 2011. Kenneth Groves will present the recommendations contained in this Report on information for decision makers in the aftermath of a nuclear or radiological terrorism incident. The pilot webinar was prepared and reviewed by the Board of Directors at its September 21-22, 2011 meeting. Although the pilot webinar was considered informative, the Board members identified several aspects of the webinar that require improvement.
