SC 46-17: Radiation Protection in Educational Institutions

The Committee is preparing an update of NCRP Report No. 32, Radiation Protection in Educational Institutions, which was issued in July 1966. The Committee met on April 13, 2004 in conjunction with the NCRP Annual Meeting; on September 9-10, 2004 in St. Louis; and on March 29, 2005 in conjunction with the 2005 Annual Meeting. The first draft of the report was reviewed at the March 29 meeting, the outline was revised and writing assignments were made. A working draft for Committee review was distributed in early July 2005. A complete draft report was prepared and reviewed at a meeting on April 5, 2006 in conjunction with the NCRP Annual Meeting. The Council review draft report covers both ionizing and nonionizing radiation, and was distributed for review July 24, 2006.

In addition to the Council review process, the report was also sent for review to eight individuals who have radiation protection responsibilities at educational institutions. Their comments provided the Committee with additional feedback from typical users for whom the report is intended. Council review ended on September 5, 2006. As of June 30, 2007, the draft report had been revised on the basis of the review comments.

Final editorial work on the report was completed, and it has been published as NCRP Report No. 157, Radiation Protection in Educational Institutions.
