James A. Brink
Director

James A. Brink was first elected to the Council in 2005 and is the Vice President for PAC 4. In 2007, Dr. Brink was selected as the Warren K. Sinclair Keynote Speaker and severed as a member of the Program Committee. He is Chairman of SC 4-3.

Dr. Brink is Professor and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Yale University School of Medicine and Chief of Diagnostic Radiology at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Brink earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering at Purdue University and an M.D. at Indiana University before completing his residency and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.  He joined the faculty at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine where he rose to the rank of Associate Professor prior to coming to Yale in 1997.   Brink was promoted to Professor of Diagnostic Radiology in 2001, and he was appointed Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology in 2006.  Dr. Brink is a fellow of both the Society for Computed Body Tomography and Magnetic Resonance and the American College of Radiology.  He serves on the Executive Council of the American Roentgen Ray Society and the Board of Chancellors of the American College of Radiology.  In May 2010, Dr. Brink became President-Elect of the American Roentgen Ray Society. Nationally recognized as an outstanding educator and an authority on abdominal CT imaging, he has pioneered technologies for maximizing resolution in multi-slice CT scanning while minimizing radiation dose and risk to patients. He has coauthored more than 110 original research contributions, reviews and books or book chapters.  Dr. Brink is also a nationally recognized authority on radiation exposure related to medical imaging.  He co-chairs the “Image Wisely” initiative, a social marketing campaign to increase awareness of educational materials related to adult radiation protection.
