Home | Publications | Reports | Report No. 139NCRP Report No. 139, Risk-Based Classification of Radioactive and Hazardous Chemical WastesThe National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) announces the release of Report No 139, Risk-Based Classification Of Radioactive And Hazardous Chemical Wastes. This Report is the product of Scientific Committee 87-2 chaired by Allen G. Croff, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This Report offers the Council’s views on a system of waste classification that utilizes a risk index for each component of waste prior to disposal and the methodology for summing these risk indexes. The Report is 435 pages consisting of eight sections, a glossary, an a listing of acronyms used in the Report, including 22 pages of references. The titles of the eight sections are: (1) Technical Summary, 56 pages, (2) Introduction, 16 pages, (3) Technical Background on Risk Assessment and Risk Management, 93 pages, (4) Existing Classification Systems for Hazardous Wastes, 77 pages, (5) Desirable Attributes of a Waste Classification System, 12 pages, (6) Principles and Framework for a Comprehensive and Risk-Based Hazardous Waste Classification System, 65 pages, (7) Implications of the Recommended Risk-Based Waste Classification System, 31 pages and (8) Conclusions and Recommendations, 5 pages.
