NCRP Report No. 143, Management Techniques for Laboratories and Other Small Institutional Generators to Minimize Off-Site Disposal of Low-Level Radioactive Waste

The National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) announces the release of Report No 143, Management Techniques for Laboratories and Other Small Institutional Generators to Minimize Off-Site Disposal of Low-Level Radioactive Waste. This Report is the product of Scientific Committee 87-1 chaired by William P. Dornsife, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This Report offers the Council's views on management techniques to minimize off-site disposal of low-level radioactive waste. The Report is 230 pages consisting of nine sections, one appendix, a listing of acronyms used in the Report, a Glossary, and 15 pages of references. The titles of the nine sections are: (1) Summary, 4 pages, (2) Introduction, 12 pages, (3) Applicable Laws and Regulations, 16 pages, (4) Low-Level Radioactive and Mixed Waste Generation Trends, 8 pages, (5) General Guidance for Development and Implementation of an Effective Institutional Waste Minimization Program, 15 pages, (6) Guidance for Selection of Waste Minimization Methods, 15 pages, (7) Waste Minimization Methods and Examples, 66 pages, (8) Designing Facilities for Waste Minimization, 25 pages, and (9) Unresolved Issues that Adversely Impact Waste Minimization, 16 pages.
