NCRP Report No. 68, Radiation Protection in Pediatric Radiology
NCRP Report No. 68 makes available a source of practical information on how to conduct the radiologic examinations of children to reduce the radiation dose to the children and those responsible for their care. The Report is mainly for the use of pediatricians, radiologists, radiologic technologists, and other physicians and medical practitioners who order or use radiological methods in examining children.
The Report addresses radiation protection problems as they apply to the examination of children and the differences, radiographically speaking, between children and adults; it suggests the guidelines to follow in determining whether or not a particular radiographic study should be performed, and describes, in detail, the various techniques for reducing exposure. There is a full consideration of equipment in pediatric radiology. Two appendices discuss (1) doses from various examinations in pediatric radiology and (2) methods for estimating selected organ doses for the projections commonly used in pediatric radiology.
