This approach is necessitated by the fact that no human populations have been identified with burdens of internally deposited radioactive materials which have been shown to produce evidence of transmissible genetic damage. For the various radiation types, genetic data for internal emitters are compared with those derived from exposure to external acute or protracted radiation to estimate the relative genetic hazard.
